Takra or Ayurvedic buttermilk is considered a wonderful digestive aid. It promotes the secretion of digestive acids and enzymes, and provides an excellent source of healthy probiotic gut bacteria. Ayurvedic buttermilk is better than yogurt or Lassi, as it is a lighter drink that does not increase they heavy, mucus forming tendency of Kapha. This delicious recipe helps restore beneficial bacteria in the intestinal tract, thus boosting digestion and assimilation.
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1/2 cup plain sheep’s milk or goat’s milk yogurt (preferably organic)
1 cup water
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/4 tsp of Himalayan salt
1/4 tsp black salt or Kala Namak (optional)
1/2 tbsp grated fresh ginger
1 small piece of green chilli (optional)
1 stalk of cilantro
Preparation Method:
– Put all of the ingredients into a blended and blend until smooth and frothy
– Serve in a glass, at room temperature
Notes:
– Pitta individuals should omit the green chilli and black pepper
