Appearance
body shape
Vata-Kapha individuals have either a small Vata-like or a thinner Kapha-type body. They tend to be short, with small frames but shorter limbs and fingers than a pure Vata. Moreover, their build is stronger and bone density is better.
hair, skin & nails
The skin of Vata-Kapha tends to be pale, of medium thickness, neither oily nor dry, cold to touch, not particularly sensitive or inflamed and has an overall healthy look to it. Their hair is coarse, wavy, and fairly thick.
Attributes
digestion & appetite
Vata-Kapha tends to feel cold all the time. Their lack of heat is usually manifested in their digestive system in the form of constipation, and in the respiratory system in the form of excess mucus. The appetite and digestion of Vata-Kapha are weak, therefore, creating an eating routine can be beneficial to them. By having three meals at the same times each day, they can regulate their digestion, and prevent issues of bloating or constipation.
body temperature & circulation
Vata-Kapha individuals tend to have poor circulation, though they do not suffer from cold as intensely as a pure Vata would, due to the presence of Kapha, which is insulated and more resilient. Their body temperature tends to be cool, which is why they prefer warmer climates. Females of this type have irregular menstruations, with a lighter flow. They may or may not experience pain, and can suffer from fibroids and cysts due to the accumulation of Kapha.
interests & passions
Vata-Kapha types are passionate about what they do and tend to overdo things. They can show openness and have an easy-going attitude, or become deep and secretive. They are creative and visionary like Vata, but also grounded and calm, due to the presence of Kapha. These characteristics will likely cause them to find interest in spirituality, philosophy, and meditation.
behavior
When in balance, Vata-Kapha individuals are friendly, loving and gentle, caring, compassionate, tolerant, and sensitive to others. When out of balance, they tend to become depressed, bitter, and lose confidence. They are the product of two opposite natures and lack the strength of Pitta, hence why, they tend to jump to conclusions or make hesitant decisions without proper investigation. They also have a harder time processing emotional pain and trauma. The very emotional Kapha, with the impulsive and unstable Vata, ensures that emotional hurt goes deep and remains unhealed.
Maintaining Balance
In order to maintain health, Vata-Kapha individuals should strive for appropriate activity levels to deplete the heavy energy of Kapha but also get adequate rest and relaxation to replenish the reserves of Vata.
Vata-Kapha people need warmth more than anything else, therefore, a diet rich in ‘heating’ tastes like sour, salty, and pungent, alongside a lifestyle that promotes heartwarming activities and loving relationships is going to keep them healthy and balanced.
