Flaxseeds or Alsi in Hindi, are packed with nutrition and many health benefits. They are sweet and bitter in taste, and have a heating effect on the body, making them wonderful for Vata Dosha. Flaxseeds are great for treating constipation due to their high fiber content, and their binding and lubricating qualities. They are best prepared as a warm tea for treating any digestion-related issues. They also promote healthy hormones, improve the elasticity of the skin, and relieve dryness.

Makes 10-12 slices

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups freshly ground flaxseeds
1 cup hot or warm water
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp pink Himalayan salt
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Garnish:
1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
1 tbsp nigella seeds (optional)

Preparation Method:
– Preheat the oven to 180°C.
– In a large mixing bowl, add the ground flaxseeds, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix everything well using a wooden spoon.
– To the dry mix, add the apple cider vinegar and hot or warm water and mix everything together until the flaxseeds start to absorb the water, and a dough is formed.
– Leave it to rest on the kitchen counter for 10-15 minutes.
– Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, place the flax dough on top and shape it into an oval loaf. Sprinkle the sesame and nigella seeds on top if you wish to do so.
– Bake the bread for 75 minutes until the crust becomes nice and firm.
– Let it cool completely before slicing. I recommend you enjoy it toasted, with lots of ghee on top!

Notes:
– Kapha individuals should enjoy it in moderation

– Drink a lot of water after you eat it
