Seeds are full of antioxidants, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. They support the reproductive system, hormones and help treat fertility disorders. Some of the seeds that were mentioned in Ayurveda include sesame seeds (specifically black sesame), flax seeds, hemp seeds, nigella seeds, pumpkin seeds, and others, all of which have numerous health benefits.
Makes 20-30 crackers
Ingredients:
1 cup freshly ground flaxseeds
0.5 cup sesame seeds (black or white)
0.5 cup nigella seeds
3/4 cup warm water
1 tsp Himalayan salt
Optional Add-ins:
1-2 tbsp of any spice or herb you like (cumin, fennel, oregano, chili flakes, black pepper, rosemary, zaatar, ajwain, coriander, turmeric.. etc)
Preparation Method:
– Preheat the oven to 170°C.
– In a large mixing bowl, add the ground flaxseeds, sesame seeds, nigella seeds, and salt. Mix everything well using a wooden spoon.
– To the dry mix, add the warm water and mix everything until the flaxseeds start to absorb the water, and a wet dough is formed.
– Leave it to rest on the kitchen counter for 5-10 minutes.
– Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper
– Make small balls out of the dough and place them on the parchment-lined baking sheet, with enough space between them. Add another parchment paper on top of the balls, and press each ball down using the bottom of a flat cup. Press firmly until it spreads into a thin disc. Repeat the process with the rest of the balls, then remove the top parchment paper.
– Bake the crackers for 25 minutes until they begin to crisp up. Flip them to the other side, and bake for another 20-25 minutes until completely dry and crispy.
– Let them cool completely before storing.
Notes:
– Drink plenty of water after you eat it, especially if you have a Vata imbalance.
