Appearance

body shape

Vata bodies are slim, lean, and bony. They are either very tall or very short, and their limbs, fingers, and neck are thin and long. They struggle to gain weight or build muscle, and their body tends to have more of a straight shape, without many curves. However, when they do put on weight, they usually gain it around the midsection. From a Western standpoint, Vata resembles the shape of an ‘Ectomorph’.

face

Vata faces are elongated, with sharp features. Their mouths are small, with thin, dark, and often dry lips. Their teeth are very large or very small, uneven, disorganized, and their gums tend to be thin and darker in color. The eyes of a Vata person are small, active, and prone to dryness. Their nose, chin, and jawline tend to be pointy and narrow in shape.

hair, skin & nails

The hair of a Vata person is usually dry, coarse, thin, and suffers from dandruff, an itchy scalp, and split ends. Their skin is thin and prone to dryness, hyper-pigmentation, an uneven complexion, and dark circles under the eyes. They tan easily and have prominent veins. Vata skins are cold to touch, especially the hands, feet, and tip of the nose, and are more sensitive to cold temperature than others, hence why, they hardly ever break a sweat. Their nails are thin, brittle, and break easily.

Attributes

speech

Vata people are talkative, they speak fast and their voice has a high and thin pitch. They often jump from one topic to another, lose their chain of thought or repeat things they’ve already spoken about due to overthinking, over-excitement and forgetfulness.

activity

Vatas are action-oriented – they tend to act and react quickly, are always on the move, unable to sit still for long, and tend to be fidgeters. Their walking speed is fast, their energy is high but they get tired easily.

mind

A Vata mind is very active. Such people are creative, artistic, philosophical, spiritual, imaginative, and tend to be restless because of their overly active minds. They overwhelm themselves with ideas; start many projects, but never manage to complete them before moving on to the next. They are friendly, enthusiastic, bubbly, easy-going, open-minded, spontaneous, and like change. Vatas are quick learners, attentive, and mentally sharp. They appreciate aesthetics, poetry, theatre, design, art, music, and literature.

memory, sleep & dreams

Vata people have a good short-term memory, are quick to memorize but also forget very easily. Their sleep is light, restless, and irregular. Their dreams often involve running, flying, escaping, or jumping. They also dream of supernatural scenes or creatures.

digestion & appetite

A Vata person’s appetite is irregular, hence why their eating timings change all the time. They tend to forget to eat or skip meals. When they do eat, it is often in a hurry, or on the go, and their eating speed varies from very slow to very fast. If eating with others, they focus more on the conversation rather than on the food itself and often end up having their meal cold because of that. Vatas experience variable thirst levels, forget to drink all day and end up drinking a whole lot at once. Their digestion is irregular, on some days it works better than others.

emotions

Vata types are emotionally unpredictable due to their constantly changing thoughts and behavioral patterns. They tend to be moody, indecisive, worried, and confused. They can go from feeling very happy to feeling sad, their thoughts are inconsistent, and the fact that they don’t like routines, order, regular schedules or stability, enhances the scatter, distraction, and spaciness they experience.
