This recipe supports and strengthens the endocrine system and the reproductive system. The taste of almonds is sweet and they are considered wonderful for generating Ojas, due to their nourishing and alleviating nature.
Ojas is the essence of our vitality and wellbeing, both physically and mentally. Besides almonds, dried figs, saffron, cardamom, ginger and honey are also great for building Ojas, which makes this recipe a powerful enhancer and supporter to our health. It is effective in balancing our hormones, strengthening our immunity, grounding and calming to our bodily systems.
Serves 4-6
Ingredients:
1/2 cup white basmati rice
4 cups water
1 cup raw almonds (soaked)
10 dried figs (chopped into small cubes)
2 cinnamon sticks
4 pods of cardamom
1/2 tsp dried ginger powder or grated fresh ginger
2-3 strands of saffron (optional)
A pinch of salt
4 tbsp raw honey (optional)
Garnish:
Chopped almonds
Preparation Method:
– Add the soaked almonds along with the water into a blender and blend until you get a smooth, milky-looking liquid.
– Soak the rice in the almond liquid that we prepared, for an hour or longer.
– Transfer the soaked rice and the almond liquid to a pot, add the spices and salt. Partly cover the pot with a lid, and leave to cook on medium heat for 10 minutes.
– After 10 minutes, remove the cinnamon sticks and cardamom pods, then add the chopped figs. Put the lid back on and let the mixture cook for another 10 minutes until it gets thick and well-cooked.
– Leave the pudding to cool for a bit before you add the honey (optional).
– Serve in small bowls, warm or at room temperature, with a sprinkled of chopped almonds on top.
Notes:
– Vata and Pitta people can add 1 tsp of ghee for extra lubrication
– Kapha people shouldn’t indulge. Eat it in moderation
